What makes a tequila reposado
Reposado tequila is matured in oak for at least two months. The type of cask, previous use, size, toast and time in wood all shape the result.
That means the word reposado tells you the class, not the exact flavour. One may be light and peppery. Another may lean towards vanilla, caramel and cooked agave.
Best uses for reposado
Reposado works well in premium margaritas, richer RTDs and bottled products where you want an obvious step up from blanco.
It can also help a lower-sugar drink feel rounder. Oak character creates a sense of sweetness and body even when the actual sugar level stays controlled.
Watch the batch consistency
Ageing introduces more variables than blanco production. Ask how the producer manages cask blending and how tightly the finished specification is controlled.
For a growing brand, repeatability matters. A great first batch is not enough if the next delivery tastes noticeably different.
Cost and availability
Reposado normally costs more than blanco because stock is tied up during maturation and there are additional production losses.
Plan your forecast earlier. If your product depends on a particular aged profile, last-minute replacement liquid may not behave the same way.
